The
Register was started around June 2000 by a man called Bob Deane.
Bob bought a Trafic based campervan but then found that there
seemed to be a dearth of technical information about the Trafic
available to the general public.
Bob’s idea was to form a group of Trafic Campervan/Motorhome
owners in order to pool
technical knowledge, so he asked around the internet and Camping/Caravan
clubs to find any like minded people.
The first newsletter, informing "would be members"
that the Register was actually in existence and a going concern,
was published in October 2000.
At
our first AGM in April 2002, the Members that were present made
it clear that they wanted not only a technical side but also a
social side to the register with rallies etc.
We
plan to hold at least 4 weekend rallies a year, in various locations
throughout the UK based on Members’ suggestions.
There
is however no pressure on anyone to take part in any rallies or
other activities if
they do not wish to do so.
The
RTMR is an active but informal group, there is no regimentation
and very few "rules". At the time of writing there are over 200
Members and the register is run by a committee of annually elected
paid up Members – by the people for the people.
We
offer outstanding value for money. We are a non profit making
organisation and a year’s membership costs less than two gallons
of petrol. The Members discount on a Peter Russek workshop manual
is in itself worth almost the cost of a year’s subscription.
Our
quarterly newsletter the "Trafic Report" is open for any Member
to air their views, submit tips, modifications, articles or place
"for sale" or "want" ads.
We
have many knowledgeable Members who are only too happy to share
their wisdom.
Of course, it must be realised that
the register, it’s officials or Members cannot be held responsible
if incorrect information is given or passed on. It is up to the
individual to verify that the information given is correct.
Members
‘vans range from home converted panel vans to custom built "A"
Class and from NEW to early ‘80s. There is no snobbery, a Member
with a ‘84 home conversion stands equally with one who owns a
brand new coachbuilt.
The
friendliness and camaraderie amongst Members needs to be experienced
to be believed.
Who
can join?
Anyone
who owns a Renault Trafic based Camper / Motorhome no matter who
the converter was. Past and prospective owners are also welcome.
